Last Friday saw me battling to get out with the local Mums for a curry... Edward wouldn't settle, and I was late leaving, so ended up sitting at the wrong end of the table with some people I didn't know feeling too shattered to speak, and generally not enjoying the evening. I don't know what it is about some Mums, but the conversation is either dull or competitive or I don't know - just not my kind of people, and all drinking wine and 'speaking as it is' so I was told that when I first went to baby group I looked how someone else felt. Hmmm.
Spent a busy weekend replacing the toilet seat, visiting the grandparents in Cannock, and getting the Mazda MOT'd. The excitement!! Husband had a bad cold, so didn't do any running, and Edward has increasingly been grouchy and sick and miserable - teething? cold? Who knows. He got worse and worse and then yesterday I took him to the GP again and finally someone listened. They took a photocopy of the weight chart in his red book and decided to refer him to the paediactrician, and also prescribed Infant Gaviscon (at last!!!). He's had it before most feeds since then, and I can't say it has made any difference, but at least we can try it. I'm wondering if he is teething and that is making matters worse...
I was out again with group Mums on Tuesday evening for another curry, and that was a more enjoyable evening. It was more expensive, and it was a horrible night to be out - really cold and wet and miserable. We talked about my plans to have more children amongst other things... the various businesses people own and their plans... lots more interesting than the other night.
Yesterday I made Delia's Christmas pudding recipe! Last year I made James Martin's, and had a sense of impending chaos with regards to this year, imagining that I'd not be able to participate in any of the Christmas preparations, so it was a pleasant surprise to be mixing up my ingredients with Elizabeth's help. They've been steaming all day today, and are currently cooling in the kitchen before I re-wrap them ready to rest until the big day.
I've also been to the local butcher's a few times. Got a chicken on Sunday and attempted a roast. Not unsuccesful as such, but very hard work. Made stock with the carcass, then made home-made soup with that, and had a chicken and leek pie with the leftovers the following day, so definitely economical, but as I say hard work. Went in today in search of lamb shanks, but he didn't have any... so bought some chicken breasts instead and found out about their Christmas turkey deals.
No news from work despite another email to Personnel and to my head of department. Not long until half-term now I don't think. Edward has started to clap hands and sort of wave his hand around, and sort of look at his hand with interest. Elizabeth is as amazing as ever. Her behaviour is a little less stressful on a day-to-day basis, but the lows are still very low! She asks so many questions and constantly interprets for Edward "Edward says, 'no - I don't want that'". She remembers so many things, like the holiday "'out a pool".
Roll on the weekend!
