hospital appointment, injections and so forth

Sarah went to see the consultant for her second appointment at the hospital yesterday. Although it would appear that the little white marks on her face which have been there since she was born are nothing to worry about, the consultant was still a bit mystified, and wanted to do further research. Sarah was as good as gold while we were there, smiling at everyone, and being her usual beautiful self.

The day before she had her third lot of immunisations, shortly after rolling off her changing mat. It was a horrible moment. I have her changing mat on a chest of drawers in our room, and had gone to flush her nappy liner. Elizabeth was on our bed, and I heard her shout "Mum, Sarah's on the edge!" closely followed by a loud thud. I came in to find her lying with the mat on top of her, with a bright red mark on her head. She screamed a lot, and it was terrifying, but she settled down and nothing untoward happened afterwards, so I thought she was probably ok. She was not happy to be having three injections so soon afterwards though...

Edward was reading 'Little Nut Brown Hare' while waiting for Elizabeth to stop having a tantrum earlier this week, and pointed at 'Mr Brown Hare' as he calls him, saying that he shouldn't be climbing! Edward still feeds in the evening, and has his special pillow to rest his head on now. He is having more and more tantrums "want do it self" and "no" being favourite phrases, but he can also be unbelievably sweet, kissing things better for people, hugging Sarah... he is going through a bit of a phase of being frightened of hairs, which is a little wearing, as I'm losing so much hair at the moment.

Elizabeth has just had her first proper haircut at the hairdressers today - she was good as gold and it went well. We've just been to buy another pair of shoes for both her and Edward, setting us back £64. Thank goodness we're not buying for the three of them at the moment!

We're about to embark on making a pizza for us all this afternoon, once husband and Elizabeth come back from Sainsburys. There are lots of things to do at the moment. Home insurance just renewed, trip to register office in Shrewsbury to put wheels in motion for ammending Sarah's birth certificate, I've applied for some part-time work online e.g. Mystery Shopping, home tutoring etc. Husband is researching mortgages etc, as when he (if he?) gets a payrise we need to look at the stay or move question, before perhaps considering whether we want to try for a forth baby. I love love love Sarah so much, she is a dream to look after, but do I want to go through another pregnancy? Saying that, it is soon forgotten once baby is here, but do I want to go through it all again? Am so tired, and remember how tired I was being pregnant and looking after Edward. We don't seem to have any space or any time, but a baby would be another family member, who'd be here forever, whereas houses and cars are more transient things - we can always get bigger and better ones in the future. We'll see. Husband and I off out for a drink tonight so perhaps we'll have chance to think about it then!

New Year's Resolutions

1. Drink 8 glasses of water per day
2. Try out at least 3 new groups/classes with the children
3. Visit at least 3 new National Trust properties
4. Start an exercise class
5. Walk regularly with Mum
6. Do some work on the family tree
7. Publish something
8. Start a course to help further my career/change career direction
9. Read at least one book per month
10. Work on building relationships within the family
11. Go out with George in the evening more than twice this year.

Well on Monday 10th January I started walking with Mum. We went out of the estate, down the High Street, up Victoria Road, down Haughton Lane and home again. On Thursday we did a bigger circuit, down to Brimstree Drive and up the other side, back home again taking about forty minutes and we repeated this on Monday 17th, so walking is under way.

I investigated joining a yoga class, but was told not until I'd finished breastfeeding.

Did some work on the family tree in readiness for Sarah's christening.

Have read 'The Little House' Philippa Gregory, one of my Christmas presents, and am now reading 'My Story' by Dannii Minogue. Drinking water was going really well, but since the chrsitening I've lapsed into eating more chocolate and drinking less water. Must try harder!!

Sarah is now 4 months old. She is laughing, smiling, and sleeping through. Just started her on her gym again this morning. She grasps things, and will pull things to her mouth tentatively. For a couple of weeks now shes been going in the big bath with the other two. She sucks her thumb now, so is able to settle to sleep much better. Edward is talking lots and lots in lovely sentences, but tantrums are also increasing. Elizabeth is back at nursery school, and has been tentatively writing her own name. She's very interested in letters and numbers, and can count to 25 and recite the alphabet, and can recognise most letters (Edward can recognise Kicking K in Kipper books!!). We've booked to go to Center Parcs in Elvedon, Suffolk in March, and are in the process of booking the Summer hol, as husband's job is safe (for now anyway!!).

Post-Christmas...

Well, the week before Christmas carried on being quite exhausting, so much so that I can't really remember it now! The weather was horrible - a really cold (freezing cold, -8 some days) snowy scene that lasted until well after Christmas. The Mazda rear doors would typically be frozen, so getting out was even more of an issue. Elizabeth was off nursery school that week, and we had a hectic evening schedule. The Sainsbury's delivery came on the Monday night, on the Tuesday night I made stollen and on the Wednesday night I went to Sainsburys to do the rest of the big shop, then on Thursday we had been due to see Nic and Bryony but called it off because of the snow. Husband went to the town centre instead to do last minute present buying.

Friday. Christmas Eve. Had a nice quiet day with the children having gone out with my Dad to collect the turkey and get brocolli from the co-op and tonic for Mum who had 'flu and had fallen down the stairs, culminating in watching the Muppets Christmas Carol while waiting for husband to arrive back from work. He was supposed to be back early, but in reality it was about 3.30pm, just in time for us to dash straight out to St Andrews for the crib service, arriving flustered and late, with Edward kicking off! It was anxiety-provoking to say the least having him scream the place down while thankfully Sarah slept on in the double buggy, all this after Elizabeth had a huge tantrum outside while I ploughed the buggy down the middle of the snowy street.

Hairwash night, so quick ready meal tea, time to leave the Christmas biscuit, bowl of water for Rudolph and Bailey's for Father C. out, then the children were whisked off to bed. Thankfully we'd done all wrapping etc, so I just had to prepare the vegetables and stuffing, find the frozen gravy out, then fill the stockings. Went to bed at a reasonable hour and had a reasonable night all in all!

Up at a reasonable time, had the children open their stockings in our bed, then got washed, dressed and ready for croissants and to see what he'd left under the tree. I started my military-precision meal preparation, topping up the steamer and myself with lots of glasses of water, and got the meal on the table for 1.03pm. Edward had his nap as usual after lunch and we watched the Queen, and some of Shrek, then they opened more presents and played until tea-time. After they were packed off to bed we dashed around washing up, cleaning and tidying before the family came over with more presents for drinks later, and a play of a new game (new for us that is) Mr and Mrs. After we'd got through the psychological hurdle of embracing a new game, it was slow making any sense of the instructions, but got the hang of it, and it was quite a fun evening in the end!

Boxing day saw me utterly exhausted, and crying lots. Felt quite ill and weak, think the whole run up to Christmas had taken its toll. We stayed home and had a quiet day, then on Monday went to in-laws for more presents, lots of craziness with children and their cousins, then Tuesday saw us at my parents for more craziness this time with mad dog and lots of aunts and uncles...

Wednesday I went wedding dress shopping with my sister and then took Sarah to her consultant appointment at the hospital. They still don't know what the spots are but are referring her for another clinic appointment next month. Thursday we went shopping, Friday (NYE) back to in-laws for repeat of Monday but without a meal, and then we had a quiet night, in bed by about 10pm. The weekend was also fairly quiet - shopping, out for a walk on New Year's Day in the 'new Mac Pac' for Edward - into Shifnal to the Co-op. On the Sunday I felt ill again, and another quiet day ensued. Took down decorations Sunday night, Monday spent going to the tip etc with all the Christmas rubbish. Tuesday husband back at work, Elizabeth back at nursery and here we are. Phew!!!
